Shakha was born and grew up in Central India always surrounded by friends of diverse religious beliefs. From neighbors and friends, he learned the stories of his homeland's different gods and goddesses. At home, he learned Bible stories from his mother, a Sunday school teacher. At the age of 18, Shakha became a Christian.
He encourages healthy living to witness and glorify God. Using a personal example to illustrate his point, he states that he has been high-energy his entire life. When he would begin a prayer, he would set out with the best intentions to speak with reverence to the Creator, but his mind always wandered. Shakha says that sometimes it was less than a minute or two and he was off, thinking about something completely unrelated. This was not how he wanted to address the Highest, but he is human and had never been taught to meditate, so he drifted.
Yoga, however, changed all that for him. Shakha began his yoga practice in late 2000. Since practicing asana and meditation, he found he could focus his mind for longer periods, showing the proper respect that God deserves. He recently deepened his practice at Just Breathe Registered Yoga School and completed the training to become an RYT200 instructor.
Yoga is not a religion; Yoga is a science of well-being, integrating body, mind, and soul.
